It is not surprising that Kacey Hamlin has been named Scholar Athlete of the Month. This senior at Monsignor Donovan Catholic High School in Evansville, Indiana has consistently shown excellence both in the classroom and on the field. With a dedication to her academics and her sport of choice, track and field, she has gone above and beyond to stand out.
Achieving Academic Excellence
Kacey Hamlin has been a high honor roll student since she began in middle school. For the past three years, she has been selected to the Principal’s Honor Roll for having a GPA of 4.0 or higher. Even more impressive is her running a 4.3 GPA her senior year.
Having received perfect scores on all AP exams, Kacey was inducted into the National Honor Society and also received recognition from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation with Commended Student status. Kacey also completed dual-credit courses at University of Evansville this past school year.
Kacey is a member of the Evansville chapter of the National Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists and was recently named a recipient of the Evansville Chamber 2020 Futures Scholars program. Kacey is also a member of the National Technical Honor Society and will finish her high school career as an AP Capstone Diploma Candidate.
Track and Field Success
As a 4-year varsity member of the girls track and field team at Monsignor Donovan Catholic High School, Kacey has received the Spirit of Track Award all four years, becoming the only female to receive the award four times in the history of the program.
Kacey is a 12-time letter winner in track, cross country, and volleyball. In track, her events include high jump, triple jump, long jump and relay. She has been an all-city participant in all four events, serving as captain for the 2019 season.
Kacey boasts an astonishing 6 individual Sectional titles in high jump (3), long jump (1) and triple jump (2) and 1-Section team win in relay. She’s a 3-time Regional placer, 2-time Regional team champ, and holds the school record in triple jump.
Interest & Activities
Outside the classroom and on the playing field, Kacey is involved in numerous activities throughout her community. She is the Student Ministry Leader for the Freshman/Sophomore Sunday school class at St. Wendel Catholic Church.
Kacey also was a volunteer for Stop Hunger Now, a global partnership addressing two of the world’s greatest problems—hunger and poverty. Kacey is a volunteer for the Christian Outreach program, helping refugee families settled in Evansville. She also periodically volunteers at St. Vincent de Paul and Mary’s Kitchen.
Kacey is also an accomplished musician with an interest in the bass guitar, jazz and contemporary music. When she’s not busy with classes and activities, Kacey likes to read, enjoy time outdoors, hang out with friends and spend time with her family.
A Bright Future
Kacey is a well-rounded student who has achieved success both in the classroom and on her sports team. With her determination and dedication, she will undoubtedly go on to even greater things in life. She will be attending the University of Missouri in the fall and majoring in Business Administration and Economics.
