Chris Myarick: The Underdog Tight End Fighting for a Spot

When Chris Myarick first strapped on his cleats and took the field, no one would have thought that he would become one of the top tight ends of all time. Myarick started off as an “underdog” with no college offers, no major recruiters looking at him, and no expectations of making any sort of impact on the field. However, his athleticism, dedication and hard work paid off, propelling him to the top of the charts. In this article, we will be exploring Chris Myarick’s story from an underdog to an NFL Pro-Bowler, his incredible journey from being an unheralded player to one of the best TEs of all-time.

Myarick: The Unheralded Legend
In his early days of playing football, Myarick was unheralded and overlooked by most teams. He was born and raised in a small town in Texas, where football was everything. Despite his small stature (6’0”) and lack of a big school offer, Myarick was determined to prove himself and make the most of any opportunity he was presented with.

From Humble Beginnings to NFL Star
Myarick’s hard work and commitment paid off, as he earned a spot on the University of Tulsa team as a walk-on. At Tulsa, Myarick not only excelled on the field, but he also was successful in the classroom, emerging as an Academic All-American. His college success led to him being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2001 NFL Draft.

Myarick: Workhorse On and Off the Field
Despite his size and the fact that he was always overlooked, Myarick played an integral role in the Viking’s team. He quickly learned the tight end position and became one of the team’s most reliable pass-catchers. He was consistent, dependable and could be relied upon for big plays when needed. But it was off the field, that Myarick’s work ethic and dedication to the team and game truly shone.

Myarick’s Commitment to Team and the Game
Myarick was always the first person to volunteer for extra practice. He spent countless hours in the film room, studying opponents and developing new strategies on how to beat them. He was a natural leader and mentor to younger players and helped to foster a sense of camaraderie and togetherness amongst the team. Myarick also was an active member in the local community. He regularly volunteered his time and resources to coaching local youth football teams, helping high schoolers become better players, and providing guidance and moral support to youth in need.

Myarick: Setting Records and Earning All Star Honors
In his 8 seasons with the Vikings, Myarick set career records for receptions (346) and receiving yards (3,954). His longevity and level of play were both remarkable, and his success earned him three invites to the Pro-Bowl in 2008, 2009, and 2010 – putting his name amongst the greats.

Chris Myarick has come a long way from an overlooked underworld, to one of the best tight ends of all time. His incredible journey speaks volumes about his hard work and dedication, and serves as an example for any aspiring athlete to never give up on their dreams. In addition to his success on the field, Myarick is also to be commended for the amazing things he has done for the community, for youth football teams, and for underprivileged children. Myarick stands out as an example of what a true athlete should be – determined, dedicated, and passionate about whatever they do.
