The New York Jets are one of the NFL’s most talked about teams heading into the 2021 season and with good reason. What’s Been Going on with the Jets?
The Jets have recently come off a 2-14 season, making them one of the worst teams in the league. They lack significant talent on both sides of the ball and have an offense that is still in its infancy. The team’s only saving grace has been the stellar play of young quarterback Sam Darnold.
However, despite the bleak picture that the Jets have presented over the last few seasons, there is hope that the team is finally ready for take-off. New Additions to the Jets
The biggest addition to the Jets this offseason was signing former 49ers’ defensive end, Leonard Williams. Williams was a key contributor to the 49ers’ defense that led them to a Super Bowl appearance, and is expected to provide an immediate boost to the Jets’ defense.
The team also added talented rookie quarterback, Zach Wilson, with the second overall pick in the 2021 draft. Wilson is expected to start in Week 1 and bring his explosiveness and playmaking ability to the Jets’ offense.
The Jets made a number of other minor acquisitions, such as the signing of WR Corey Davis, RB Tevin Coleman and LB Avery Williamson, and the additional resources should help the team immensely.
Will the Jets be Ready for Takeoff?
It’s hard to tell exactly how successful the Jets will be in 2021, but the team has all the pieces in place for a successful season.
The team has an offensive core in place with Sam Darnold, Zach Wilson, WR Corey Davis, and RB Tevin Coleman, along with the addition of offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur. On defense, the team has made massive improvements with the signings of Leonard Williams and Avery Williamson, as well as implementing a new defensive scheme under head coach Robert Saleh.
The team also adds more versatiles players this offseason, that can play either side of the ball. Players like WR Jamison Crowder and RB Ty Johnson are both capable of playing on offense and defense, which should help the team’s versatility.
